- Music in the Courtyard - The Shoppes at 200 First Street in Neptune Beach hosts Music in the Courtyard from 7 to 10 p.m. Fridays. This week, the Mike Shackelford Trio will perform tunes from the early '70s through today. They'll play original material and classic covers. The event is free and open to the public. - Cultural Center environmental exhibit - The Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra has called on its artist members to submit work for an upcoming environmental exhibition called "EverGreen: Environmental Interpretations." - Country singin' and dancin' - The Johnston Duo performs at the oceanfront Casa Marina Hotel Tuesday and Wednesday nights through the fall and their fans can sing and dance along with them. It's open mic from 7 to 8 p.m., then a dance lesson to learn country line dancing, swing, shag, jitterbug and Latin until 9:30 p.m. The performances, which start this week, are on the oceanfront veranda.

- Sea turtle art - The sixth annual Sea Turtle Art Show at First Street Gallery benefitting the Beaches Sea Turtle Patrol runs though Sunday, Sept. 28. First Street Gallery is across from Shelby's Coffee Shop in Town Center. A percentage of the proceeds from sales of sea turtle art will be donated to the Sea Turtle Patrol.

- Paintings - Mixed-media painter and sculptor Steve Williams and his exhibit called "Bullet Proof Vest" are featured at Stellers Gallery Annex at Beaches Town Center, 200 First St. in Neptune Beach. The exhibit is a fundraiser for the City Rescue Mission's LifeBuilders addiction-recoveryprogram in Jacksonville. The show will run until the end of the month. Stellers Gallery Annex is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. For more information, call 247-7200.

- Historical gala - The Beaches Area Historical Society's 28th annual gala this fall will celebrate the history of Atlantic Beach. The event will be held at the Selva Marina Country Club on Saturday, Oct. 18. The Gala Committee is looking for vintage photographs of Atlantic Beach. The gala will feature large photographs and posters of landmarks of days gone by. Donations of pictures may be made to the archivist at The Beaches Museum & History Center, 380 Pablo Ave., Jacksonville Beach.

Pianist Gene Nordan, who performed at Atlantic Beach's Chateau Piano Bar, will provide the evening's entertainment. In addition to cocktails and dinner, there will be live and silent auctions. The gala is the nonprofit Beaches Museum & History Center's major fundraising event. For more, call 241-5657.
