A few big changes are coming this fall for Girl Scouts on the Westside and around the country.
After hearing from Scouts and volunteers nationally, Girl Scouts of the USA is readjusting its age groupings, according to a news release.
Community meetings will be held to explain the new groupings, which are: Daisy, grades K-1; Brownie, grades 2-3; Junior, grades 4-5; Cadette, grades 6-8; Senior, grades 9-10; and Ambassador, grades 11-12.
The new program levels are designed to reflect the age groups girls identify with socially and developmentally, the release said. Such changes had not been made since the 1980s.
In addition, the familiar Girl Scout Handbook will take a back seat to Journeys , a new series of books that will be used to track girls' progress in leadership activities.
