Who says Latin is dead?
Rachel Robison of the Westside, along with a few of her classmates from St. Johns Country Day School in Orange Park, might disagree with the question's premise.
They lived it up recently at the National Latin Convention in Oxford, Ohio, devoting part of their summer break to ancient Roman ways. More than 1,500 students from 47 states attended from July 28 to Aug. 1.
Robison, a senior, assumed the likeness of Hebe, the goddess of youth, for a costume contest. She won first place in her category, carrying on St. Johns Country Day's winning tradition at the convention, a news release said.
Several of Robison's classmates also won first-place honors, including Lynn Killea, who led the state's Certamen team to victory. Certamen is a quiz game similar to Brain Brawl. Sam Leach of Stanton College Preparatory School was an alternate member on the team.
